Teaching Method

Outline:
In this course, students will understand disasters and acquire the knowledge, awareness, and skills related to disaster risk reduction and prevention to become a leader in disaster risk reduction and disaster prevention in various situations in their social lives or in the organizations to which they belong. Those who would like to can also work to acquire a Disaster Prevention Specialist qualification.
Style:
Lectures will be held in an omnibus style: each theme will be different depending on the lecturer. However, there will also be collaborative learning such as CROSSROAD games.
Nabeshima: Weeks 1, 3, 4, 6, and 15; Mototsuka: Weeks 2, 9-11, and 13; Visiting lecturers: Weeks 5, 7, 12, 14
Notice:
Students will learn the minimum amount of what they need to know to live in Japan, a developed country with many disasters. They will be expected to learn with an interest in real-world events and play an active role as a disaster prevention leader in the future.   
Students who miss 1/3 or more of classes will not be eligible for a passing grade.

1st Guidance, What is a disaster? [Nabeshima] Understand recent natural disasters in Japan and can explain the concepts of disaster risk prevention and reduction.
2nd CROSSROAD game [Mototsuka] Can make appropriate and prompt decisions in the event of a disaster.
3rd Earthquake disasters [Nabeshima] Can explain basic things about earthquakes such as what causes them in Japan and how to earthquake-proof houses.
4th Tsunami disasters [Nabeshima] Can explain basic issues such as the causes of tsunamis caused by earthquakes.
5th Meteorological disasters (typhoons, torrential rains, abnormal weather) [Visiting lecturer] Can explain the causes of floods and abnormal weather caused by typhoons and torrential rains, and measures to prevent and reduce them.
6th Sediment disasters (earthquakes and torrential rains) [Nabeshima] Can explain the causes of sediment disasters caused by earthquakes and torrential rains and the measures against them.
7th Fire, emergency, and rescue Activities [Visiting lecturer] Can explain the current state of emergency and rescue activities in the event of a fire or other disasters.
