概要:
It is recommended that students enrolling for the class have a TOEIC score of at least 550. Building on previous course work, students will engage in weekly extemporaneous speeches based on a TOEFL sample of topics in order to further develop their ability to brainstorm major points, develop outlines, find supporting data from the Internet or other sources, and to rehearse and to improve their oratory skills. Each week students will selection speech topics based on TOEFL data and will spend 15 minutes developing speeches. After this 15 minute time period, students will take turns coming to the front of the classroom to give their speeches with their classmates and the teacher as audience members. Each speech will be no longer than 5 minutes. Students will also practice and engage in three speech contests in which their skill in dramatic, humorous, and demonstrative oratory competence will be improved. Students in this course will be provided with information concerning speech contest events held outside of school and will be strongly encourage to participate in those events.

Students’ ability to brainstorm major points and construct a rough outline, to find relevant data, statistics, and/or quotations from the Internet or other sources, to rehearse and to improve their oratory skills, and to improve ability to create and give dramatic, humorous and demonstrative speeches, will be evaluated through three speech contests. An understanding of English oral communication skills covered in English 2B, Advanced English 1, and Practical English. ［レポート等］ The total time necessary for students to acquire an understanding of the course is 45 hours, including classroom time and study time outside of the classroom. 学業成績の評価方法及び評価基準 Students must obtain at least 60% of the total possible points in order to receive 1 credit.［単位修得要件］Method of Evaluation: Speech contest 1, 33%; Speech contest 2, 33%; and Speech contest 3, 34%. Students may have their final scores reduced for poor class participation.
