The objective of this course is to help students improve their ability to identify useful phrases and expressions to use during English conversations and to develop their English oral communication skill through participation in English-language conversations.

教育方法等
概要:
Students will improve their ability to converse in English by learning useful phrases and expressions. Students will also improve their English oral communication ability by participating in weekly English-language conversations in which the useful phrases and expressions will be practiced. Specifically, each week, students will be presented with a different list of useful phrases and expressions along with an explanation of how to use them in their English conversations. During the first half of each class, students in groups of two, will write a conversation in which these phrases and expressions are included. During the second half of each class session, groups will take turns coming to front of the classroom to hold their conversations.
授業の進め方・方法:
・The following content conforms to the learning and educational goals: (A) ＜Perspective＞ [JABEE Standard 1(1)(a)], and (C) ＜English＞ [JABEE Standard 1(1)f].
・For the first half of class, groups of students will write a four person conversation in which these phrases are used. During the second half of class, students will take turns coming to the front of the classroom to hold the conversation out loud.
注意点:
<到達目標の評価方法と基準>
Students’ ability to identify useful phrases and expressions will be evenly evaluated through the use of two exams (a midterm exam and a final exam). Students will have attained the goals provided that they have earned 60% of the total points possible for this course.
<学業成績の評価方法および評価基準>
50% Midterm Exam, 50% Final Exam. Students may have their final scores reduced for poor class participation. Because it is impossible to give paper exams that measure English oral communication ability, students will only be tested on ability to identify phrases and expressions.
<単位修得要件>
Students must obtain at least 60% of the total possible points in order to receive 1 credit.

An understanding of English oral communication techniques covered in English 2A and 2B.
<レポートなど> The total time necessary for students to acquire an understanding of the course is 45 hours, including classroom time and study time outside of the classroom.
