The objective of this course is to introduce students to techniques to help them create and give English-language oral presentations.

概要:
The objectives of this course are to 1) have students select a topic for an English oral presentation, 2) to teach students how to create an outline to crystallize their thoughts into a cogent discussion of their topic that will then be used in the development of a PowerPoint presentation; 3) to teach students to actually give a presentation in English; and 4) to select three students to participate in the 12thAnnual English Presentation Contest for Students of Colleges of Technology

<到達目標の評価方法と基準>
Students’ English oral presentation ability will be evaluated through one “Main” English oral presentation to be given on the 15th week of class. Students will have attained the goal of this course provided that they have earned 60% of the total points possible which includes the 1 “Main” presentation.
<学業成績の評価方法および評価基準>
Students are required to give 1 “Main Presentation”. The total time necessary for students to acquire an understanding of the course is 45 hours, including classroom time and study/presentation time outside of the classroom. Failure to meet any of these requirements will reduce a group’s final course score by 10% for each infraction.
<単位修得要件>
Students must obtain at least 60% of the total possible points in order to receive 1 credit.
<あらかじめ要求される基礎知識の範囲>
A good command of basic English syntax; a practical level of reading and listening comprehension, and some ability to converse in English as achieved through their first five years at Suzuka Kosen.
<レポートなど> Students will be given weekly assignments, such as, topic selection, weekly outline and PowerPoint updates. Failure to meet the deadlines for these assignments will result in a 10% reduction of the final grade—for each infraction. Students are required to obtain an email account which can send and receive Word and PowerPoint documents. During the last class session prior to the presentation contest, students must meet four main assignment deadlines: 1) Final PowerPoint files on USB must be downloaded to Lawson’s computer, 2) Final scripts with presentation titles on the first page on USB must be downloaded to Lawson’s computer, 3) Speaking order sheets using student numbers (not names) on USB must be downloaded to Lawson’s computer, and 4) actual hardcopy student number “name” tags must be given to Lawson.
