Teaching Method

Outline:
The ability to establish a problem and find the appropriate solution to this problem is a skill necessary at KOSEN (higher education institution). A skill required to live through the 21st century. The students that entered KOSEN need to acquire these skills at an early stage. In this course, the students will learn methods of self-learning and autonomously learning, and not "study" as they have learned at junior high school. Also, while cooperating with colleagues, the students will learn the process of problem discovery and resolution.
Style:
Based on the textbook, the students I will learn various learning techniques. The quizzes and exercises will help to evaluate the students the learning process. As the student practices self-learning he will organize and explain the experience in written reports. Also, through group work, there will be opportunities to evaluate the learning process.
Notice:
1) Almost in every lesson ICT equipment such as personal computers will be used. The students need to be familiar with keyboard operation. The students that are not familiar with keyboard operation should practice outside of class hours, and there will be no time to practice in class.
2)There are additionals study (task) using the e-learning system (Moodle) outside the classes. These activities are also included in the evaluation.
3) Only 3 absences will be excused.
4) There are4 items in the final evaluation. Practice exercises, tasks, exams, and final reports. The final rating is according to the following conditions.
· Practice exercises → Submit all and get a score of 60% or more
・ Task → submit all and get 60% or more points
・ Exams → To get a score of 60% or more
・ Final report → get more than 60% score

1st Quarter
1st Facing your own learning (orientation) To understand and be able to explain learning design, considering the surrounding learning environment, the depth of learning, and the importance of learning from now on.
2nd Create a foundation for learning To be able to explain the diversity expected in the place of learning, and to practice listening and assertiveness.
3rd Expectations at Kosen and future goals To understand and be able to explain your expectations at Kosen and establish future goals.
4th Understand your learning style Explain different learning styles and practice your own learning style.
5th Manage time The explain methods of time management, and to manage time according to assigments deadlines and your performance.
6th Become more resilient To be able to explain how to learn from mistakes and practice learning using autonomous assistance.
7th Motivate learning To be able to explain your problems regarding learning motivation, and increase your learning motivation.
8th Encourage understanding To be able to tell the construction of the teaching methods, and if that is not enough to add up.
2nd Quarter
9th Mid Term exams To be able to explain what was learned.
10th Review of midterm exam Looking back on the midterm exam, and find a learning method that suits you.
11th Work together with other people Explain the importance of cooperative learning and propose grand rules for collaborative learning.
12th How to organize opinions To be able to explain the techniques of cooperative learning, to practice brainstorming and the KJ method.
