Course Objectives
This course is positioned as an introductory subject, so no prior knowledge of law is required. However, since law is a study that is closely related to the real world, students are expected to pay attention to current topics on a daily basis. The instructors are also expecting to have interactive classes and may ask students to speak actively. Base on students' active learning attitude, the course objectives are as follows:
In this course, we will aim to acquire basic knowledge of law, including the subject, purpose, and methodology of law. After that, we will examine the system of the positive laws and acquire basic knowledge of the Constitution, the Penal Code, and the Civil Code through the analysis of specific cases and important judicial cases. We will also deepen our understanding of international public law, which is used to govern the right-to-obligation relationship between states. Finally, the goal is to develop the ability to legally examine the various incidents and events occuring in modern society.

Teaching Method
Outline:
The purpose of this course is to understand the basic concepts of law and legal thinking and to think about social and legal issues through important themes in social life. The student will also study various laws in Japan in connection with important matters such as basic human rights.
Style:
The course is centered on lectures using handouts and blackboard but the students are encouraged to speak actively in order to make the classes more interactive.

Notice:
The basic concepts of law are systematically explained in this course, but the themes of each class and the order in which they are presented may be changed depending on the students' understanding.
This course's content will amount to 90 hours of study in total. These hours include the learning time guaranteed in classes and the standard self-study time required for pre-study / review, and completing assignment reports.
Students who miss 1/3 or more of classes will not be eligible for a passing grade.
