Assigned Department Objectives

Teaching Method

Outline:
Experiments and practical trainings on structural mechanics, structural design, sanitary engineering, environmental engineering etc are conducted by plural professors in this class. They are also carried out by dividing a class into 2 groups of A and B. Group A will conduct experiments on sanitary and environmental engineering and group B will conduct structural testing in the first half. On the other hand, group A will conduct structural testing and group B will conduct experiments on sanitary and environmental engineering in the latter half.
A professor of this subject has an experience as an engineer of bridge fabricator. He engaged in design of steel bridges and steel structures. Based on his experiences, he conducts an experiment-style class with regard to a meaning of influence line, deformation and strength properties of a I-shaped girder under 4-point bending, and relationship between strain and bending moment of steel beam in elastic range.
Style:
Each group are divided into smaller group in each experiment. Prof. Watanabe is in charge of experiments on sanitary and environmental engineering and prof. Miyoshi is in charge of structural testing. Students have to submit a report on procedure, results and observations of the test after finishing the experiment. Students will take tour of a factory and facility associated with civil engineering, construction site etc to learn practically concerning the project of infrastructure and technology except for experiments.
Notice:
Students are required for attitudes to set purposes on theme of an experiment by themselves. Also, students have to learn the method of experiments through collecting materials on the experiment and practicing the test. In addition to, it is important for students to have an attitude to resolve the problems by themselves. For this reason, students should record the situation and results of an experiment immediately and they have to submit the report by the deadline. Students have to take part in the experiment by wearing proper clothes (work clothing etc) and shoes (sport shoes).
Students who miss 1/5 or more of classes will not be eligible for evaluation.
