Course Objectives


(1) According to the given conditions organize ideas freely, without being bound by preconceptions, and create a design concept.
(2)To understand the design conditions, and make sketches of the zoning, flow line, each floor plan, elevations, sections, and site plan.
(3) To design considering the site, neighborhood, and scenery.
To produce a site plan, floor plans, elevations, cross sections, models, perspectives etc.
(4) To make a model of the design and present it to others.

Teaching Method

Outline:
In this course, the students' specialized knowledge acquired up to the third grader is developed in an integrated manner, and the students learn the fundamental of the spatial organization. To design according to specific requirements. To think about the type of structure and materials to use in the design, and how to take advantage of the materials/structure in the design. According to the given design conditions organize ideas freely, without being bound by preconceptions, and acquire fundamental design skills. To use drafting tools and produce hand draw drawings, to understand the different types of lines (at least 3), to understand scale, size and how to use text information, to follow drafting rules. To represent architecture graphically. The instructor (Tokuoka) is the chief architect of Tokuoka architects office and has rich experience in architectural design.
Style:
To create architectural designs that fulfill the specifications.
Mototsuka is in charge of classes mainly, and at the review presentation, Tokuoka, who has experience in architectural design work at his design office, comment on the student's design.
Notice:
This course requires 90 hours of self-study time. The students are required to proceed systematically and respect the assignments submission deadline. To visit buildings and read books related to the assigned facility. Use tools suitable for design drafting, such as sketchbooks, and tracing papers. For the students to achieve the course goals, it is necessary to do tasks outside class time.
Students attendance is required, and only a maximum of 5 absences is excused.
