Course Objectives

With a focus on traditional Japanese architecture, the student will understand how architecture design styles have changed along the history. The students will acquire knowledge about the characteristics of the most significant design styles in 1)Traditional Japanese architecture history, 2)Western architecture history, and 3) modern architecture.

Outline:
In this course, the students will acquire knowledge about traditional Japanese architecture, western architecture and modern architecture.
The course aims to present the style and spatial characteristics of Japanese architecture from ancient times to modern times. It will analyze each style of traditional Japanese architecture and its relation to the social and cultural background characteristics and historical changes of each period.

Slide lectures on architectural history and field trips
Notice:
The students are required to read the textbook and handle a report about the content read at each class. The students should review the content learned. ( up to 5 absences will be excused )
