教育方法等

概要:

In order to develop practical English speaking and listening skills, this subject is taught all in English, and students are expected to use English as much as possible.

授業の進め方・方法:

This subject is taught all in English, and students are expected to use English. Students can learn the basic format of a scientific paper through the lecture. The subject includes learning through the lecture and practice to acquire presentation skills. So, active participation is required.

		1週	Scientific Writing; IMRAD	Consider the question: What is scientific writing? and view the basic format of a scientific paper.
		2週	Results	Examine ways to present and describe scientific data in tables and figures.
		3週	Discussion	Learn the basic mechanics and style of a discussion section, and some techniques for generating and organising ideas.
		4週	Introduction; References	Investigate the function and format of an introduction section, and the key points for writing clearly. Additionally, review proper referencing techniques.
		5週	Method	Examine and practice ways to describe processes and procedures in scientific writing.
		6週	Title; Conclusion	Examine the structures of a conclusion and title.
		7週	Abstract	Examine the format of an abstract, and prepare for the test by reviewing the course content.
		8週	The Physical Message 1	Look at the importance of posture and eye contact in communication, and practice ways to utilize this physical form of communication.

		9週	The Physical Message 2	Study and practice ways to use the voice effectively in a presentation.
		10週	Organising and Presenting Main Points 1	Investigate the functions of an introduction and conclusion, then identify and practice basic formats and techniques for introducing and concluding a presentation.
		11週	Organising and Presenting Main Points 2	Examine and practice ways for presenting and supporting the main points of a presentation, and learn some useful transition techniques for moving from one point to another.
		12週	Using Visuals Effectively 1	Study the different types of visuals that can be used in a presentation, and identify problems and solutions for the effective use of these visuals.
		13週	Using Visuals Effectively 2	Learn and practice techniques for explaining visuals.
		14週	Presentation Practice	Practice presentations in small groups and receive feedback.
		15週	Presentation Symposium	Students present their own research (8 min).
