Course Objectives

Learning purposes : To develop all four skills (listening, reading, writing and speaking) in a balanced manner.
Course Objectives :
1. To acquire an attitude to communicate proactively in English, and be able to understand and communicate about themselves and their immediate surroundings.
2. To be able to acquire and use grammatical and syntactic vocabulary at the level shown in the Guidelines for High School Instruction.
3. To be able to read aloud English texts with correct punctuation and intonation.
4. To summarize the abstract of the text in English or Japanese.

Course outline : Students will read aloud and write a simple essay on the basis of their understanding of the content of the textbooks in a variety of fields. In addition, the students will practice the input activities (vocabulary and grammar) that form the basis of these activities.
Style:
Course method :
(90 minutes) Students will practice finding the boundaries of English in order to read aloud. After listening and reading comprehension, students practice reading aloud and making a summary.

Grade evaluation method :
From the first semester mid-term exam to the second semester mid-term exami, the results of Regular exams are evaluated on average (60%). Grades are based on the results of Regular exams, quizzes, assignments and class notes (40%). For the final evaluation at the end of the academic year, the results of the above method are added to the final exam, converted to 90%, and the results of the GTEC (reading and listening) are added to the evaluation by 10%. Students are not allowed to bring textbooks and notes to the exam.
 In some cases, the exams will be retaken. Students must participate in the class.

Students must take this class (no more than one-third of the required number of class hours missed) in order to complete the 1st year course.

Attendance advice :
Students are expected to participate actively in class. The lectures, reading aloud and writing in English will provide a basis for improving the students' operational skills. Students are required to take the GTEC examinations. Students are encouraged to take the Eiken (Japanese Language Proficiency Test) and other qualifications and examinations.
