Course Objectives

Learning purposes : To develop all four skills (listening, reading, writing and speaking) in a balanced manner.
Course Objectives :
1. To acquire an attitude to communicate proactively in English, and be able to understand and communicate about themselves and their immediate surroundings.
2. To be able to acquire and use grammatical and syntactic vocabulary at the level shown in the Guidelines for High School Instruction.
3. To be able to read aloud English texts with correct punctuation and intonation.
4. To summarize the abstract of the text in English or Japanese.

Course outline : Students will read aloud and write a simple essay on the basis of their understanding of the content of the textbooks in a variety of fields. In addition, the students will practice the input activities (vocabulary and grammar) that form the basis of these activities.
Style:
Course method :
Reading, listening, and writing activities are the main focus of the class. Students will also have the opportunity to create their own interrogative questions and discuss them with a partner, which is the initial stage of English conversation.
For TOEIC, the students practice pronunciation of 40 words with "TOEIC L&R TEST Duru Mon Tokkyu Gin no Phrase", which serves as a vocabulary book. Students will be asked to study the words which are not covered in the class as it is not possible to practice all the words during the class time. The reading section of the First Time Trainer for the TOEIC Test is compulsory as there is no time to solve the questions in class.

Grade evaluation method :
From the first semester mid-term exam to the second semester mid-term exam, the results of the regular exams are evaluated on average (50%). In addition to the results of the examinations, the student's assignments and self-assessments (50%) are evaluated as a whole. For the final evaluation at the end of the academic year, the results of the above mentioned method are added to the final exam and converted to 90%, and the TOEIC-IP test results are added to the evaluation by 10%. Textbooks and notebooks are not allowed to be brought to the test. In some cases, the test will be retaken.

Precautions on the enrollment :
   Students must take this class (no more than one-third of the required number of class hours may be missed) in order to complete the 3rd year course.
  
Course advice : Students are required to prepare for and review the lessons and memorize as much vocabulary as possible. Students are required to bring a dictionary to class to review and memorize as much vocabulary as possible.

Attendance advice : Students are expected to participate actively in class. The lectures and activities of reading aloud and writing in English are the basis for improving the students' operational skills. Students are expected to bring their textbooks, folders, and dictionaries (English-Japanese, Japanese-English, or electronic dictionaries) with them to each class. Students must take the TOEIC-IP Test, which will be given after the midterm exam (planned). Students are expected to make efforts to improve their listening skills by using audio materials as well as the listening tasks in each lesson.
