Course Objectives

Learning purposes :
To deepen students' understanding of Japanese language knowledge, such as kanji for common use and idioms, and to improve their ability to express themselves by using them appropriately.

Course outline :
Students will study Kanji independently and test their achievement by taking The Japan Kanji Aptitude Test (Kanken).

Course method :
Under the guidance of the instructor, students will practice questions for The Japan Kanji Aptitude Test on their own initiative.

Grade evaluation method :
Students who have passed Grade 2 or higher of The Japan Kanji Aptitude Test must notify the instructor in charge and apply for credit to the Educational Affairs Section by the last day of the final examination of the school year. The Educational Affairs Committee will deliberate on the credit approval and evaluate whether the student passed or failed.
Notice:
Precautions on the enrollment :
Students must submit an application for elective courses by the designated date. In addition, this course is a qualifying course, and students must apply for credit in order to receive credit. The number of credits approved by the Educational Records and Programs Committee for Elective subjects is limited to 4 credits for general subjects.

As a preparatory study, check your level on the official website of The Japan Kanji Aptitude Test.
The examination dates for the public venues in 2021 are June 20 (Sun.) for the first session, October 17 (Sun.) for the second session, and February 13 (Sun.), 2022 for the third session.
In addition to Okayama City and Kurashiki City, CBT test sites are also available in Tsuyama City (PC Raifu Computer School Tsuyama School Test Center: 1F NTT Building, 1-1 Otemachi, Tsuyama City).

Attendance advice :
The Grade 2 is for high school graduates, university students, and adults (the level at which you can read, write, and use all the regular kanji appropriately in sentences), but it is difficult to pass on your own, and you need to study for the examination.
For the Gradel 1 test, about 6,000 kanji characters, including the 2,136 regular kanji characters, and for the Grade Semi-1 test, about 3,000 characters, mainly the regular kanji characters, are covered. Both of these grades are considered to be at the level of university or general education, but a great deal of effort is required to pass them.
In order to pass the test, you will need to put in a lot of effort.
