Course Objectives

Learning purposes :
Improve students' ability to think through reading of various texts of Japanese modern literature.
Acquire conventional knowledge about Japanese language.
Learn classical literature, hone sensibility, and deepen knowledge of Japanese culture.

Course Objectives :
1. To improve logical and multilevel understanding, flexible thinking and thinking ability by reading various texts of Japanese modern literature
2. To increase knowledge of Japanese language and develop the ability to use it properly.
3. To learn about the connection with modern Japanese language and literature, and deepen understanding of Japanese culture, by reading representative texts from Japanese ancient literature and classical Chinese (kanbun).

Course outline :
Classes on Japanese modern literature, Japanese ancient literature, classical Chinese (kanbun), and Japanese expressions are conducted using textbooks, handbooks, and handouts. A Mini test is conducted every week.
Style:
Course method :
Classes on Japanese modern literature, Japanese ancient literature, classical Chinese (kanbun), and Japanese expressions are conducted using textbooks, handbooks, and handouts. In the first semester, Japanese modern literature and Japanese ancient literature are studied, and in the second semester, classical Chinese (kanbun) and Japanese expressions are studied.
There is a Mini test every week.
There are assignments that must be submitted.

Grade evaluation method :
Exams (60%) + Mini tests (20%) + Portfolio (20%).
Regular examinations will be conducted a total of 4 times, and the evaluation ratios will be the same. The Evaluation ratios for Japanese modern literature, Japanese ancient literature, classical Chinese (kanbun), and Japanese expressions will be shown each time. As a general rule, retaking exams can not performed.
A mini test is conducted every week, and the average score is included in the grade. As a general rule, retaking mini tests can not performed.
Portfolio work will be completed during classtime and during long vacations. Details will be given each time.

Precautions on the enrollment :
Students must take this class (no more than one-third of the required number of class hours missed) and earn the credit in order to complete the 3rd year course.

Course advice :
As a preparatory study, the students are required to review the contents of Japanese I and II, which are the basic subjects.
Read the textbooks and read aloud before class to see if there are any parts you do not understand. Every week, you will take a mini test, so be sure to study and take the mini test. Actively participate in classes and make efforts to increase your knowledge of Japanese.
