Course Objectives

Learning purposes :
In order to spend a meaningful time at a college of technology and to develop the possibility of advancing to a graduate school, we aim to develop comprehensive Japanese language skills to cope with academic activities.

Course Objectives :
1. To be able to understand kanji and sentences in newspapers and textbooks.
2. To be able to collect information and write logical sentences in Japanese.
3. To be able to speak in Japanese that is appropriate for the situation and the other person.
4. To deepen your understanding of Japanese culture and try to become familiar with it.
5. To be able to communicate effectively in Japanese, using effective explanatory methods and means to convey opinions and ensure smooth communication.

Course outline :
To improve the Japanese reading and writing skills necessary for international students to become autonomous learners in higher education institutions. For this purpose, students will read a variety of texts written in Japanese and write essays on familiar topics. At the same time, debates and speeches will be conducted in order to develop conversation and listening comprehension skills necessary for life in Japan.
Style:
Course method :
The class will proceed according to the textbook, but other supplementary materials (problem sets, articles in newspapers and on the Internet) will be used as appropriate in order to consolidate the students' knowledge and operational skills. There will be time for students to research topics, summarize their thoughts, present them, and exchange opinions. Through repeated practice in output, students will develop the ability to make presentations in Japanese, which will be necessary in the future.
In addition, in order to develop the kanji and vocabulary skills required of advanced Japanese language learners, we will use "Kakitakunaru Assist Joyo-Kanji" to promote kanji study.
We will try our best to help students polish their Japanese language skills, but we also hope that students themselves will be interested in Japanese language and culture every day and attend the class.

Grade evaluation method :
Exam (70%) + Mini tests (10%) + submitted assignments (10%) + attendance and study attitude (10%).
A score of 60 or higher is considered a passing score, and retests will be given if necessary.

Precautions on the enrollment :
This course is required for completion of the third year of the course (absences must be less than one-third of the prescribed number of class hours).

Course advice :
It is desirable for students to have reached JLPT N2 level in advance. Since there is a large amount of content to be learned, students are encouraged to prepare and review on a daily basis so that they do not miss anything. We will make every effort to provide education and information that will help students develop an interest in Japanese language and culture, but we also hope that students themselves will develop an interest in Japanese language and culture and attend classes.

Attendance advice :
If you are late for class, you will be considered tardy for up to 20 minutes and absent for the rest of the class.
Students are expected to participate actively in class and submit assignments on time.
In addition to the above, there will be quizzes on kanji and vocabulary every week, so students are expected to prepare for the designated sections of "Kakitakunaru Joyo-Kanji".
There is a possibility that the textbook and the contents of the class will be changed depending on the situation of the students.
