[Learning Purposes]
Through the appreciation and analysis of Western theater, we will learn about the characteristics of the periods depicted and the various ways of thinking and perception of the people in those periods and apply them to our own lives. Through theatre, we will consider the connections between the society and the people.

2. To be able to critique a play based on the background knowledge as its creation of the theatres.
3. To be able to analyze contemporary theatrical performance, bearing in mind the influence of earlier plays on contemporary performance.

Course Outline: Students will watch a Western-style play and read the accompanying material from a single perspective. Through such learning activities, we will learn about the characteristics of the time period and the various ways of thinking and understanding of the people in that period, and apply them in our own lives. Through theatre, the students will consider the connections between society and people.
Style:
Course method : 1) Lecture, 2) Viewing, 3) Producing the film sheet about Performances and Films, 4) Research for a Report
Class method : Students will watch a theatrical work based on a topic. The students are expected to find answers to the topics in a given period of time. The teacher presents original classics and literary works as well as explanatory materials. Students are expected to explore a topic logically on the basis of such materials.
Grade evaluation method : Report: 55%, Normal grade ('performance/film sheet', participation) 45%. There will be no regular examinations.
Notice:
Precautions on the enrollment : This is a "class that requires study outside of class hours". Classes are offered for 15 hours per credit, but 30 credit hours are required in addition to this. Follow the instructions of your instructor for these studies. In addition, students are required to submit sheets of paper in each semester. In addition, students should be aware that failing to submit sheets for each class will lower their grades. If you are going to take a break for any reason, please consult with your professor in advance.
Course advice :
Do not take this course if you only want to earn credits. This is an elective course on all aspects of the performing arts, including Shakespeare and plays with music. Students are expected to find works of interest and investigate the themes and theatrical issues by using their feet. Students are required to read the original classical works and accompanying literature, and also view the stage and its visual adaptations.

Attendance advice : Students are expected to participate in the class and hand in all assignments on time. Students are not allowed to enter the room after the start of class as it may interfere with the viewing of the film. All the translated books of Shakespeare's plays are available in the library. We hope you will have access to many of them. It is recommended that students reserve a copy of a book from the prefectural library when writing their reports.
