Course Objectives

To help students develop their English speaking skills for a variety of common conversational situations. Students will develop skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing, as well ask methods for strategies for overcoming misunderstandings (circumlocution techniques). Students’ final scores will depend on two tests (a mid-term test and a final test) as well as in-class participation and attendance.

Course Plan

2nd Semester
3rd Quarter
1st Unit 1: Present Conditional Students will learn the English needed for recommending. Students will improve their usage of 'would' in imaginary situations. They will be able to make and ask questions to ask about sightseeing.
2nd Unit 2: Tag questions Students will improve their response time to basic questions without looking lookin at the textbook. Stusents will learn vocabulary related to travel and holidays.
3rd Unit 3: Phrasal Verbs Students will learn the differences between the four types of 'phrasal verbs'. Students will practice talking about their experiences.
4th Unit 4: Talking about the past - 'was/were going to' Students will learn useful English phrases to complain about purchases. Students will develop skills for telling how they changed past plans and intentions.
5th Unit 5: Talking about the past - 'used to' Students can improve their usage ot the 'used to' & 'didn't use to' form. Students will make quesitons about travelling abroad. Students will develop skills for talking about their ability and achievements.
6th Unit 6: Probabilty; Future events Students will learn vocabualry and phrases for talking about future events. Students will practice the English needed for asking for and giving advice.
7th Unit 6: Future tense (Plans, hopes and expectations) Students will make conversations about their plans, hopes and expectations.

4th Quarter
9th Review of the test, Unit 7: Passive Students will review their test papers. Students will practice the English needed for asking for and giving advice. Students will learn the vocabulary related to personality.
10th Unit 8: Grammar point; 'too & enough' Students will develop skills for making comparisons. Students will practice the English needed for expressing and responding to opinions and ideas.
11th Unit 9: Direct speech & Reported speech Students will practice the difference between 'direct speech' and 'reported speech'. Students will develop skills for talking about the news.
12th Unit 10: Communication strategies Students will learn about communication strategies. Students will the vocabulary and phrases related to marriage.
13th Unit 11: Adverb clauses Students will improve their conversational skills using adverb clauses. Students will learn the English needed for making appointments. Students will develop skills for talking about a country.
14th Unit 12: Adjective clauses Students will improve the their conversational skills using adjective clauses. Students will develop skills for asking for and giving instructions.
15th 期末試験 Test Week
16th Return tests Students will review their test papers.
