到達目標

The purpose of this course is to get students speaking and listening to English as much as possible in class. To maximize student-talk-time, lessons will focus on discussing the complexities of Social Development Goals (SDGs), students' opinions on these, as well as how these goals affect the students' lives. In this way, students will see that the English studied in class has direct relevance to their lives inside and outside of the classroom.

教育方法等

概要:
Use of the textbook as well as conversation with other students and the teacher, frequent review and quizzes, as well as testing.
授業の進め方・方法:
Generally the textbook in conjunction with classroom activities will comprise a bulk of the class work. Supplementary material will be used at each teacher's discretion.
注意点:
Grades will be 60% test based, 30% based on class activities and quizzes, and 10% on TOEIC score.

1週 Introduction, Unit 1: “Live Together” Explanations of class format and tools for communication. Students will learn the vocabulary and grammar necessary for discussing the complex issues of learning foreign languages and being global citizens.
2週 Unit 1: “Live Together” Students will discuss learning foreign languages and being global citizens, and how these issues relate to their lives.
3週 Unit 2: “Create Inclusive Society” Students will learn the vocabulary and grammar necessary for discussing the complex issues of the aging population in Japan and the Ainu people and language.
4週 Unit 2: “Create Inclusive Society, Units 1 and 2 Review Students will discuss the aging population in Japan and the Ainu people and language.
5週 Unit 3: “Think About Food Problems” Students will learn the vocabulary and grammar necessary for discussing the complex issues of fair-trade chocolate and palm oil and our eating habits, and will engage in discussion on these and related issues.
6週 Unit 4: “Ensure Quality Education for All” Students will learn the vocabulary and grammar necessary for discussing the complex issues of the literacy rate in the world and educational problems in Africa.
7週 Unit 4: “Ensure Quality Education for All, Units 3 and 4 Review Students will discuss the the literacy rate in the world and educational problems in Africa.

9週 Review mid-term exam. Unit 6: “Don't Use Plastic” Students will learn the vocabulary and grammar necessary for discussing the complex issues of the difficulty of reusing plastics and the problems posed by microplastics.
10週 Unit 6: “Don't Use Plastic” Students will discuss reusing plastics and the problems posed by microplastics.
11週 Unit 7: "Protect All Living Things", Units 6 and 7 Review Students will learn the vocabulary and grammar necessary for discussing the complex issues of raccoons breaking the blanace of Japanese ecosystems and of Japanese eels as an endangered species. Students with then discuss these issues in class.
12週 Unit 8: "Build Sustainable Cities and Communities" Students will learn the vocabulary and grammar necessary for discussing the complex problems of big cities and the issue of disasters in Japan.
13週 Unit 8: "Build Sustainable Cities and Communities," Unit 9: "Secure Electricity Resources" Students will discuss the complex problems of big cities and the issue of disasters in Japan.
14週 Unit 9: "Secure Electricity Resources", Units 8 and 9 Review Students will learn the vocabulary and grammar necessary for discussing the complex problems of nuclear power and the different types of availability of electricity resources in Japan. Students will then discuss these issues in class.
