This course is designed to provide students ample opportunities of "Negotiation for Meaning," which deepens the understanding of a target language.
By the end of this course, students will be able to 1) express their opinions on various socio-cultural issues in English, and 2) attain B2 level proficiency of English (score over 785 on TOEIC and pass Eiken pre 1st).

概要:
Built upon Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL), this course is intended to enhance students' four language skills (reading, listening, writing and speaking) as well as deepen the knowledge of contemporary socio-cultural issues such as environmental problems. Students will also cultivate the ability to conduct academic research through information technology.

環境問題をはじめとする、さまざまな社会問題を英語を通じて学習する。教科書を用いたリーディング、リスニング、ディスカッション演習、そしてグループ毎のプレゼンテーションを通じて英語で情報を収集、自分の考えを発信できるようにする。
授業の進め方・方法:
Everything in this class will be conducted in English, including students' questions to the lecturer in order to create a sink-or-swim environment.
Each class begins with the textbook, which includes reading comprehension, listening comprehension, and discussion questions. These textbook activities are followed by a group presentation leading to a whole-class discussion on the topic provided by the presentation. (What students are expected to do for both preparation and group presentation will be explained in Week 1 and Instructions on how to do research given in Week 2) At the end of the course, students have to submit an individual research paper of about 1,000 words.

教科書を用い、リーディング、リスニング、ディスカッション演習をする。その後グループプレゼンテーション、クラス全体での討論を行う。
グループプレゼンテーションに必要な知識は２回目授業内において教える。
注意点:
It is desirable for students to have attained at least upper-intermediate level of proficiency (TOEIC 600 or Eiken 2nd grade) beforehand. This course is designed to improve English proficiency by having students put English into the actual use, which entails the minimum explication of English language itself.
Classes center on small-group and whole-class discussions. Therefore, students will be expected to come to class prepared to discuss a topic of each week by gathering relevant information outside the classroom. Additionally, contributing to the creation of atmosphere conducive to English dialogues is a given.
Students must attend the first week. Those who cannot attend the first class for some unavoidable reason should contact the instructor beforehand.
This course is designed to prepare students who are to move up to university for academic discussions in English. For those who are going to join the workforce upon graduation from Kosen, the course would be unnecessarily demanding.
In an event of low enrollment, this course will be held jointly by 4EC and 4MS. Should this change occur, please ask personnel at the office of academic affair for a renewed class date.

この授業は全て英語で行うため、受講においてある程度の英語力が求められる（最低でもTOEIC 600程度は必須。英語の文章を読み、それについて議論をするという活動が中心であり、英語自体に関する説明はほとんど行わない）
位置付けとしては、大学進学を考えている学生がTOEIC７００点後半を取れる英語力を獲得することを目標としており、高専卒業後就職する学生向けではない。
グループワーク中心に行うため、受講者数に応じてシラバス内容は変化する。また受講者数が少ない場合はEC・MSでの合同授業となる。その際の時間割は未だ教員に知らされていないため、学務課に問い合わせてください。
