Overall aim of the 3rd Year syllabus is to continue with vocabulary learning and extensive reading methodologies that the students are familiar with and have proven effective in the past, while introducing new activities that will help to maintain motivation for studying English, and teach new skills that will be relevant in academic and professional contexts. The four main components of the syllabus are designed to complement and supplement each other and to provide a good deal of variety during class time. The individual components are described in the following.
概要:
The aim of this course is to improve English comprehension and expression using various forms of English written and spoken discourse relating to technology and engineering, and general knowledge of the humanities and our daily lives. This will be achieved through extensive comprehensible input, (intensive and extensive reading and listening) a variety of interactive classroom tasks, (information mapping, group poster presentation, mini-tests, individual presentations) and through homework tasks (including extensive reading, and intensive vocabulary study). Review of grammar and development of critical thinking skills are central to this course. Intensive reading will be assessed through in class text mapping tasks. Listening will be assessed through cloze tests. Extensive reading will be assessed using Mreader. Vocabulary knowledge will be assessed using WordEngine.
授業の進め方・方法:
Students will continue to pursue mastery of essential grammar and vocabulary, while gaining comprehensible input and fluency by engaging in active intensive reading and listening activities (in class), and through extensive reading and intentional vocabulary learning. Students will have opportunity for speaking practice during interactions with the instructor as well as various communicative tasks.
